The new museum in Cairo Egypt will be unveiled.  The Grand Egyptian Museum will house more than 18,000 ancient artefacts, including the full tomb collection of Tutankhamun, and the Khufu ship, an intact, full-sized vessel built around 2500 BC.   It will be nearby the Great Pyramids of Giza and has been built on a site almost equal to the size of  70 football fields  aiming to to become the largest archaeological museum.

General Information about Egypt

Orientation:

Egypt is a country of antiquity, with magnificent landscapes offering cities and oases, deserts and beaches, ancient obelisks and modern hotels. Bordered by the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the fabled Nile River, travelers can experience eras as far back as the dawn of civilization.

Time Zone:

Egypt observes Eastern European Time all year.

There are no Daylight Saving Time clock changes.

Egypt is GMT/UTC + 2h Standard Time

Temperature:

Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 50°F to 96°F and is rarely below 46°F or above 102°F.

In Cairo, the summers are long, hot, humid, arid, and clear and the winters are cool, dry, and mostly clear.

Traveling from mid September to mid May ideally are the best times of year to visit Cairo.

Visas and Passports

A passport and visa is required to enter Egypt.

Citizens of more than 70 countries are eligible to apply for an Egypt e-Visa.

Travelers are not required to attend an embassy or consulate in person, or wait in line for a visa on arrival in Egypt.

Language:

Modern Standard Arabic is the official language of the African country of Egypt and is used in most written documents and taught in schools across the country. Arabic was introduced to Egypt under the Arab occupation. Arabic easily became integrated with other Semitic languages such as Syriac, Berber, and Assyrian to form other variants of Arabic spoken in the country today.

Colonization of Egypt facilitated the spread of western languages such as English and French, which are associated with the elite and affluent in modern Egypt.

Currency:

The official currency of Egypt is the Egyptian Pound. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and upscale shops. There are also ATMs available at hotels and outside major banks dispensing local currency.

Tipping:

When traveling to Egypt, it is best to understand that tipping is an important element during the tour. Tipping is popular in some tourist destinations, and it is widespread throughout Egypt.

Tipping is a way of life to increase the income of low-wage people and is expected.

Photography:

If you are taking photographs of local people, always ask their permission beforehand. Your guide can assist you for this. Do not take photographs of military installations or airports. It is advisable to carry your camera in a dust-proof bag.

Electricity:

In Egypt the power plugs and sockets are of type C and F. The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Shorts above the knee and sleeveless shirts are not allowed inside Mosques and other sacred sites.

Comfortable footwear is also essential — avoid high heels and open toes. Women who intend to visit the inside of the Pyramids may want to wear trousers as they’ll need to ascend and descend staircases as well as crawl in narrow passages.
